Thank you, Claire for all the resources and tips you’ve given so far. All very much appreciated. J & A are loving the sessions. No easy task keeping two 16 year olds engaged for an hour, but you do it well. Huge thanks, Claire!
At The English Lab, I specialise in giving AQA students absolute confidence in how to target the AQA GCSE English (and English Literature) exam papers. Led by a highly experienced tutor and UK award-winning teacher, Claire Davidson, the programmes blend proven teaching strategies, expert resources, and a student-first approach to make progress inevitable.
We believe great GCSE English tuition starts with clarity. That’s why our approach combines:
I am a UK Teaching Award winner and National Judge with thirty years experience teaching students aged 11-18. I am also an experienced examiner, having worked for many years as a Team Leader for a variety of exam boards. Whilst I have taught all abilities, my most recent position in a boys grammar school has given me a particular insight into the need for high end intensive intervention to raise exam performance in the run up to the GCSE English examinations.
I am considered an approachable and friendly tutor who creates an excellent working environment where all students feel confident to participate freely and share their ideas. I work hard to engender an atmosphere of mutual respect and support, where everyone contributes and feels safe and comfortable to do so.

“Professional, experienced, friendly, knowledgeable, supportive, brilliant! English has always been a struggle for my son, who got a low level 3 in the summer so started tutoring with Claire ahead of November resits. Her knowledge of the exam process, student learning and the English syllabus is amazing. She was able to encourage and support my son, who made terrific progress in a short time. He came out of the summer exam shrugged his shoulders and made a grunt. He came out of the November exam saying he has never written so much in an English exam, (and knew how to approach each question correctly.) He was smiling, actually smiling after an English exam! Claire and my son worked together to find the areas he needed to focus on and then worked intensively through the process. He regularly submitted work, which Claire thoroughly and accurately marked, using her many years of experience. This bespoke approach motivated him and gave him confidence. I cannot speak highly enough of Claire, her knowledge and approach has given my son the best chance possible.” Update: ‘W received his November resit results and achieved the Grade 4 he needs to finally pursue the course of his choice. He did this within 2.5 months. I am so relieved and delighted.’ (N.H.)
“Having had the honour of being taught by Claire and to have then later known her as a colleague I can absolutely vouch for her dedication to excellence and passion for the success of students in her care.”

Claire really got to know my son and understood his strengths and weaknesses. She treated him like an adult and gave him a real confidence to go above and beyond what he thought himself capable of, especially given his dyslexia. Not only did he get two 7s in English, but the skills and critical thinking that Claire helped him develop enabled him to do well in all his other subjects too. We would absolutely recommend Claire. If you are looking for someone to truly support your young person then she is it !

‘Happy to report M got Grade 7s. And to be honest, the only study she did was with your group… So, thank you!!! Claire is absolute gold dust. She has helped and encouraged two of my children through English GCSE exams. She is inspirational, energetic and absolutely on the money when it comes to the syllabus. I owe her so much. My kids have confidence in their ability now and both did really well in their GCSEs. I cannot recommend Claire more highly!
Claire has been absolutely wonderful tutoring our daughter and helping her understand what is required for her GCSE English exams. K always looked forward to her lessons with Claire as she was so approachable, and she was always on a high after her lesson as she just understood it so much better than in the classroom environment at school. K particularly liked her lessons at home and not having to leave the house to go for tutoring. Furthermore, Claire always marked her work and gave feedback straight away. She also kept in touch with us on our daughter’s progress and also let us know when she was getting a bit lazy!! We highly recommend Claire, and we are so grateful she was recommended to us. K went from disliking English to enjoying it, which is all down to Claire. Thank you Claire.
Thank you so much Claire. E found your sessions enjoyable and was able to put it all into practice and get the grades he was hoping for. I highly recommend Claire for both English Language and Literature!
A recent message from a happy parent: ‘Hi Claire, I just wanted to let you know that J got a grade 9 in her mock! She is over-the-moon. Thank you so much for all your support so far.’
“I highly recommend Claire Davidson as an exceptional English tutor for GCSE exam preparation. With her expert guidance and personalised approach, my daughter not only improved her understanding of the subject but also gained confidence in her abilities. Claire possesses a deep understanding of the curriculum and tailored her lessons to address my daughter’s specific needs, ensuring that she grasped challenging concepts with ease. Her patience, dedication, and passion for teaching shone through in every session, creating a supportive learning environment. I am immensely grateful for the invaluable impact Claire has had on my daughter’s academic journey. No doubt we’ll see Claire again in a few years when my son needs some help with his GCSEs.”

‘I definitely feel much more confident about getting the grades I need after doing the ‘AQA GCSE Classmates Club’ with Claire.’
“Claire was an amazing teacher and is an inspiration to this day. The passion she has for teaching and learning is evident by the awe that children and young people have for her and the lessons she teaches. I will always value the time she gave me, the listening ear and the friendly smile. She believed in me, she saw abilities and strengths I hadn’t even identified or found in myself yet. Not only this she inspired me to take challenges and succeed at things I probably wouldn’t have done without her guidance and support. I will always recommend Claire to anyone looking for that person to guide, support, inspire and encourage someone to be a better person and along the way she will also help you to understand English! What more could you want?”
